Here are a series of maps which seek to visualise the patterns of distribution in the collection of 500+ First World War memorials which are (or were) in Welsh chapels.
MAP 1
This map shows the locations of where these memorials were established (bear in mind that many have been relocated, and a depressing number have been lost).
Green – Roll of Honour only
Red – Memorial to dead
Black – Both Roll of Honour and Memorial to dead
Blue – Community memorials
Orange – Memorials that do not name the servicemen
The map contains information on memorials in over 500 chapels
MAP 2
This second map shows WW1 Memorials in Welsh chapels that are Stained Glass or include Photographs
Key:
Orange – Stained Glass Window
Green – Memorial includes photographs of servicemen
There are 15 entries with stained glass windows
and 13 entries with photographs
MAP 3
This map categorises the memorials by the percentage of those who served who died.
MAP 4
This map shows the distribution of WW1 memorials in Welsh chapels with high and low numbers of dead.
MAP 5
This map shows which WW1 memorials in Welsh chapels include women.
MAP 6
This map shows which WW1 memorials in Welsh chapels include Canadian, Australian or South African servicemen.
MAP 7
This map categorises the memorials by the language used.
